A fine pair of late 19th century 18K yellow gold torpedo earrings, the surmounts set with round amethysts surrounded by halos of natural seed pearls. The amethysts have a pinkish tint prized in France and called “rose de France.” The torpedos are elegantly engraved with bands of flowers, laurel leaves, and lace. The torpedoes have substantial length and very free movement, but are comfortable to wear. The earrings are completely original, and both the surmount wires and the torpedoes are marked by the goldsmith Paul Dreux who began working in Paris in 1887. These earrings would have been made very early in his career.
