Belle Epoque 18K Gold & Sapphire Fancy Link Chain Necklace

A very fine Belle Epoque 18K gold necklace set with round sapphires. The necklace comprises a series of fancy gold stations decorated with acanthus leaves, wreaths, and small flowers. The round stations are all set with blue sapphires. The sapphires are untreated and have fine blue color and excellent clarity. The overall quality of the necklace is difficult to overstate, even down to the mechanical touches such as the fully pivoting connectors toward the ends that prevent twisting. The ends of the chain finished with additional lengths of simple chain (apparently original) that can function as either a safety chain or as an extender. The necklace is stamped with a serial number, indicating a high quality jeweler, but we have not identified the maker’s “RG” mark. The necklace is fully marked with French 18K gold hallmarks.
