A very fine American sterling silver and gold hinged bangle bracelet, the front decorated with engraved birds, foliage and fans in the Japanese Aesthetic style. The design is further accented with 14K gold appliques. The edges at the front are finished with rows of silver spheres. American silver jewelry is considerably more uncommon than English pieces of the period. The interior is stamped “Standard,” indicating the bracelet meets the purity standard for sterling silver (925/1000). This mark was used for only a short time after the 1868 adoption of the standard.
