A fine Easter egg pendant from the Imperial period worked in 14K gold and silver and set with a spiraling torsade of turquoise and natural seed pearls. The turquoise cabochons are nicely matched and with no greenish discoloration. Eggs served as a symbol of rebirth and their popularity soared as the Imperial family began commissioning egg jewelry and other objects from firms well-known jewelers. The pendant is stamped with Imperial-era marks on the mounting that are partially obscured with later French import marks for 14K gold. Portions of the original marks as well as the last letter “C” of the maker’s mark are visible on the mounting.
