A stunning late Victorian 18K yellow gold locket featuring a starburst centering a natural saltwater pearl at the center and ruby-set rays radiating outward. The entire design is set into a field of 69 seed pearls surrounded by a border of 2.5 mm saltwater pearls finished with a twisted rope border punctuated with rubies. The cushion cut rubies have extremely fine color and show no indications of heat treatment. The interior of the locket retains its original glass cover. The bail is likely a later replacement. The locket is stamped with French 18K hallmarks.
