$1,650.00
An unusually large and finely executed Art Nouveau violet jewel in 18K gold, enamel, and diamond, designed to be worn as either a brooch or pendant.
The flower is rendered in opaque white and purple enamel, with carefully modeled petals arranged around a central old mine cut diamond. The stone is described as I/J color and SI1 clarity, offering a soft, slightly warm tone typical of period-cut diamonds while retaining good brightness.
Violet motifs were closely associated with modesty and innocence in late 19th-century symbolism, and the use of both white and purple enamel suggests a layered meaning consistent with Art Nouveau’s interest in natural forms and poetic detail.
The back retains both the original pinstem and clasp, as well as a bail, allowing the piece to transition easily between brooch and pendant. The scale, enamel work, and central diamond give it a presence that distinguishes it from more typical examples of the form.
A particularly well-executed example of American Art Nouveau jewelry, combining size, craftsmanship, and symbolic design.
