A finely executed Art Nouveau floral jewel in 18K gold, enamel, and diamond, designed for wear as both a brooch and pendant.
The composition centers on an old mine cut diamond, whose softer, more diffuse brilliance is characteristic of period-cut stones. The diamond is described as I/J color and SI clarity, giving it a slightly warm tone while retaining good brightness.
Surrounding the stone, the enamel work is carefully modeled to create depth and naturalism, reflecting the Art Nouveau emphasis on organic form and surface detail. The combination of enamel and diamond provides contrast between matte color and reflected light, a hallmark of the period’s best work.
The reverse retains both the original brooch fitting and a bail, allowing the piece to transition easily between forms. The scale, materials, and construction give it a presence that distinguishes it from smaller or more purely decorative examples.
Delicate floral pins of this sort were popular gifts for new brides. In Victorian symbology, flowers represented honey and crescents represented the moon. Thus, honey + moon = honeymoon.
A strong and wearable example of American Art Nouveau jewelry, combining craftsmanship, material contrast, and period design.
