A classic Loire Valley silver tastevin, executed in second standard (.800) silver and notable for its restrained, early form.
The shallow bowl is left entirely undecorated, a characteristic associated with Loire Valley production, where emphasis was placed on form rather than surface ornament. Subtle evidence of hand hammering and a small lathe mark at the center further indicate early manufacture and hand-finishing.
The handle is formed as a simple, curving snake, worked without additional detailing—again consistent with the region’s preference for minimal decoration. The underside is engraved with the original owner’s name, “P. Roux,” adding a personal and historical dimension to the piece.
Stamped with French silver marks and an unidentified maker’s mark, the tastevin represents a straightforward and early example of regional wine-tasting vessels, valued for both function and authenticity.
A particularly clean and representative example, with strong appeal for collectors of French silver and wine-related objects.
